Circulation Policies of the Mary H. Weir Public Library

Borrowing policy

To check out any materials from out Library, patrons must have a valid Mary H. Weir Public Library Card, a Brooke County card, from Wellsburg, a Swaney Memorial card, from New Cumberland, or a Lynn Murray Memorial card, from Chester. Most library materials circulate for two weeks. Videos circulate for 2 days.

Renewals

After the original two-week borrowing period, an item may be renewed up to five times for additional two-week periods, UNLESS there is a hold on it for another patron. No item may be renewed if another patron has placed a hold on it.

Holds and Reserves

Books or other items may be reserved or "held" on request. Once you are notified that your book is in, it will be held for three days. No phone reserves will be taken. Reserves may be placed at the Circulation Desk in person.

Library Cards

Cards are free to all residents of West Virginia. Cards for all out-of-state residents require an annual fee of $10 for Adults and $5 for children. Applicants for cards must show proper identification, such as a driver's license, checkbook, or utility bills with their current name and address.

Fines

Overdue fines are 5 cents per day per item. Overdue fines for videos are $2.00 a day per item.

Photocopies

Photocopies are 15 cents per copy. Copies on 11" by 17" paper are 25 cents per copy. Copies may also be made from microfilm or microfiche at 25 cents per page.

Deposits

Deposits are collected on certain materials, such as GED, ACT, Armed Forces, Civil Service, and Nursing Exam Study Books, as well as auto repair manuals. Your money is refunded when the book is returned.

Interlibrary loans

Often, books which our library does not own may be borrowed from other libraries. The individual borrower must pay postage and any photocopy or handling fees. It may take up to take up to 2 to 4 weeks to receive this material from the other libraries. Also, if our library does not own a book, we may borrow from the Swaney Memorial library in New Cumberland, or the Lynn Murray Memorial Library in Chester, which would take only 1 day to retrieve.

Booksale

50 cents to $1.00 per hardcover book and 50 cents per paperback book. Also, when our Library has a large book sale you may purchase books--8 hardbacks for $5.00.

Video Cassettes (VHS)

There is no fee for video rentals. Requirements include: being a patron 18 years old and older and using a valid library card without fines, or overdue materials. Videos circulation period is 2 days. Overdue fine for a video is $2.00 a day per video.
